Sports physiotherapy involves the diagnosis and management of injuries resulting from participation in sport and exercise across all age groups and all levels of ability from social to elite. We work closely with doctors, coaches and parents (in the case of children's sporting injuries) to ensure a smooth transition back to sport/exercise following an injury with a long term goal to maximise sports performance and prevent re injury. Depending on the injury, treatment will involve a combination of manual therapy (such as massage and mobilisations), taping (rigid, rock or kinesiotape), braces/supports where required and a structured and progressive exercise program of stretches, strengthening and sport specific technique, skill and co-ordination training.
Common sports injuries we see include:
- Sprains – especially ankle, wrist, finger and foot
- Strains – especially hamstring, calf, groin, biceps and back
- Knee injuries – Medial and lateral ligament injuries, meniscal injuries as well as PCL and ACL tears are common in the sporting population of Orange! These tears are most common in sports such as football (all codes), basketball and netball, which involve moving quickly from one position to another.
- Shoulder injuries – the most common shoulder injuries we see include rotator cuff injuries, bursitis, impingement, instability and arthritis.
- Fractures – both traumatic fractures and stress fractures. We work with the Orange Health Service fracture clinic, private fracture clinics, orthopaedic surgeons and GPs to manage all types of fractures and can fit moon boots and crutches as required.
Plus tennis or golfer’s elbow, shin splints, plantar fasciitis, bursitis, patella-femoral pain, iliotibial band syndrome, tendonitis and rehab post – surgery.
